Moving Man Health and Safety Commitment

Moving Man is committed to providing a professional removal service that protects the health, safety and welfare of our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public. This Health and Safety policy sets out the standards and procedures we follow to manage risks associated with domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport and delivery of goods.

Policy Objectives

The core objectives of this Health and Safety policy are to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property, and to promote safe working practices throughout our operations. We aim to identify and control hazards, provide clear instructions and training, maintain safe equipment and vehicles and continually improve our performance in all areas of safety management.

Management Responsibilities

The management of Moving Man has overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. Managers will provide appropriate resources for implementing this policy, ensure that risk assessments are carried out and reviewed, and that safe systems of work are developed and followed. Management will monitor compliance, investigate incidents and take corrective action where necessary.

Managers are responsible for ensuring that all team members understand their duties, are competent to carry them out and are given any necessary information and guidance. They will encourage a positive safety culture in which staff are supported to report hazards, near misses and concerns without fear of blame.

Employee Responsibilities

All employees of Moving Man share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Staff must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. This includes following training and instructions, using equipment correctly, wearing any required personal protective equipment and reporting hazards or incidents promptly.

Employees must not engage in unsafe behaviour, misuse equipment or work under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that may impair their ability to work safely. Any concerns regarding fitness to work must be raised with management before starting duties.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

Moving Man conducts risk assessments for the typical tasks involved in removal work, including packing, lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, driving and working at customer premises. These assessments consider manual handling risks, slips and trips, falls from height, vehicle movements, traffic routes, weather conditions and access constraints.

Based on the findings of these assessments, we develop safe working procedures to reduce risks to an acceptable level. Staff are briefed on these procedures and must follow them at all times. Where conditions change or new hazards are identified on site, the team leader will review the risks and adjust the work method accordingly.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

Manual handling is a key part of removal work, and Moving Man places strong emphasis on safe lifting techniques. Employees receive instruction on assessing loads, using correct posture, working as a team and recognising their personal limits. Heavy or awkward items are handled using appropriate equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, lifting straps and ramps, where reasonably practicable.

All equipment is selected for suitability and is subject to regular checks to ensure it is in good condition and safe to use. Defective or damaged equipment must be removed from service immediately and reported to management. Only trained personnel may operate specialised lifting aids or tools.

Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards

Our removal vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition in line with manufacturer recommendations and any applicable standards. Drivers must carry out basic pre use checks and report defects promptly. Loads must be packed and secured to prevent shifting during transit, and vehicles must not be overloaded.

All drivers must comply with road traffic laws, adhere to speed limits and drive in a manner that prioritises safety over speed or convenience. Journey planning will take account of weather conditions, traffic, parking arrangements and safe access to customer locations.

Customer and Public Safety

Moving Man recognises its responsibility to protect customers, visitors and members of the public during removal activities. Where possible, work areas will be clearly identified, trip hazards such as loose packaging materials will be managed and walkways will be kept clear. When loading and unloading near public areas, staff will remain vigilant and take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised persons entering the work zone.

We will respect customer property and ensure that doors, stairways, lifts and access routes are used safely. When conditions are unsafe, such as in severe weather or in areas with restricted access, work may be adjusted, delayed or stopped until suitable control measures can be implemented.

Training, Information and Supervision

All staff receive induction training covering company health and safety rules, emergency procedures and safe working methods relevant to their roles. Ongoing training and refresher sessions are provided where necessary, particularly in areas such as manual handling, vehicle safety and the use of handling equipment.

Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for providing clear instructions, monitoring work practices and ensuring that staff understand and follow safety procedures. Where new tasks, equipment or methods are introduced, additional training and guidance will be provided before work begins.

Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

Any accident, injury, near miss or damage to property arising from our activities must be reported to management as soon as possible. Incidents will be recorded, investigated and reviewed to identify root causes and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

Employees must familiarise themselves with emergency arrangements for each site, including fire exits, assembly points and any local procedures provided by customers. In the event of an emergency, staff must follow instructions given by the designated person in charge and prioritise the safety of people over property.

Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement

Moving Man is committed to continual improvement in health and safety performance. We will monitor compliance with this policy through regular discussions, inspections and reviews of incident records. Lessons learned from incidents, customer feedback and staff suggestions will be used to refine our procedures and training.

This Health and Safety policy will be reviewed periodically and updated when there are significant changes to our operations, working practices or relevant standards. All revisions will be communicated to employees so they remain aware of their responsibilities and the measures in place to protect them.

By working together and following the principles set out in this policy, Moving Man aims to provide a reliable, efficient and safe removal service for every customer and every move.
